The Aviatrix - She Should Run

Since 2018, Loopy Mango has partnered with She Should Run — a non-partisan 501(c)3 nonprofit committed to advancing women and girls in public leadership — by donating a portion of proceeds from the Aviatrix to the organization.

She Should Run’s mission is to get 250,000 women to run for elected office by the year 2030. Visit sheshouldrun.org to learn more about them and about how you can get involved. If you can, run for public office and make a difference!

We chose to partner with She Should Run because their method of empowering women to run for public office is effective and approachable. We believe that women must have equal representation in the government, which we do not currently have. If more women consider and attempt running for office, that brings us closer to equal representation in the government.

When designing The Aviatrix, our designer Oejong Kim was inspired by flight helmets worn by female aviators in the 1920s and '30s. These brave women overcame tremendous gender-based obstacles to pursue their dreams of taking to the air. Their pioneering work helped to shift the world's understanding of what women are capable of and continue to inspire millions to this day.

The Aviatrix can be purchased as a handknit hat, a DIY knitting kit, or a digital pattern. Loopy Mango will donate 50% of proceeds from the readymade hat or DIY kit, and 100% of proceeds from the pattern to She Should Run.

Even if you've never knit before, we have a full video tutorial that shows you the process from start to finish!

Fundraisers

Ukraine War Relief

In March 2022, Loopy Mango donated 100% of proceeds from digital pattern sales to organizations providing aid to Ukraine. We chose a different organization to support each week: International Rescue Committee, Project C.U.R.E., Direct Relief, and Razom Emergency Response.

National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.

In June 2020, Loopy Mango donated 100% of net proceeds from our Loopy Mango journals and cards to the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.

The NCBW is a nonprofit organization whose focus is "to advocate on behalf of Black women and girls to promote leadership development and gender equity in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.” The NCBW designs and implements initiatives to help tackle national issues affecting the Black community.

Meals 4 Heroes

In April 2020, Loopy Mango donated 100% of proceeds from pattern sales to the nonprofit Meals 4 Heroes. This organization works hard to provide meals for NYC hospital staff from local (non-national-chain) restaurants. In effect, Meals 4 Heroes supports the medical professionals on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis, as well as local small businesses that are struggling to stay afloat.

Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

In the aftermath of the destructive Hurricane Harvey in summer 2017, Loopy Mango donated 50% of all online sales over a two-day period to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, which was set up by the Greater Houston Community Foundation - a 501(c)(3) public charity.
